Icom IC-M422 Waterproof Two-Way Marine Radio (White) Overview

White 25 watt VHF with hailer, built-in DSC that meets RTCM SC-101, individual, group and all ships call, position request and position report with a third party

Icom IC-M422 Waterproof Two-Way Marine Radio (White) Specifications

Built tough to withstand the punishing marine environment, the Icom IC-M422 fixed-mount VHF radio is a must for safety-minded boaters. The radio is outfitted with a host of valuable features, including a large backlit LCD display with a four-step contrast, an intuitive, easy-to-use keypad, and a rugged waterproof housing that's submersible in 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes. More significantly, the radio works with all 57 U.S., 61 Canadian, and 57 international channels, along with 10 weather channels from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA). The VHF channels offer an ideal way to communicate with other boaters--whether exchanging information on a hot fishing spot or sending out a distress signal--while the NOAA channels notify you when inclement weather is approaching.

The radio--which mounts conveniently on your boat's dash using the included bracket kit--employs Icom's Force5Audio technology to boost the sound pressure levels and produce crisp, loud reception. The integrated microphone, meanwhile, is finely tuned to pick up voices while minimizing ambient background noise, such as a boat engine, wind, or seagulls. As a result, both casual conversations and urgent distress calls come through loud and clear.

The IC-M422 offers several scanning modes, including an auto scan function that starts scanning whenever no signal is detected, a traditional scan mode that searches through all the tag channels in sequence, a priority scan mode that does the same but also monitors the distress channel (number 16), and a weather alert option that immediately switches the radio to the appropriate weather channel when a storm warning comes through. Users will also dig the Dual Watch and Tri-Watch functions. The former lets you communicate on a channel of your choice while also keeping an eye on emergency channel 16, while the latter monitors two channels--channel 16 and another channel--while receiving a third channel. The pair of "watch" modes guarantee that you won't miss an important emergency call from a distressed boater while your attention is otherwise engaged.

As with other high-quality fixed-mount VHF radios, the IC-M422 comes with built-in Digital Selective Calling (DSC), which lets you send a formatted distress message in an emergency. DSC activates an instantaneous, continuous "mayday" signal that identifies your vessel, reports your position, and time stamps the message. But that's not all, as boaters can also use DSC to make contact with a specific boater of group of boaters in your area. DSC uses a unique ID (MMSI code) that's similar to a telephone number. To stay in contact with specific boaters, simply store each boater's unique address in your radio (the IC-M422 holds up to 100, each with a five-character name).

Another nice detail is the IC-M422's GPS compatibility. When connected to a GPS receiver, the radio can send your GPS position to other boats, or it can poll the GPS location of another vessel and display it on your LCD screen in seconds, provided the navigational device accepts the NMEA data format. The polling function also checks whether a specific ship is in your communication range.

Finally, the IC-M422 can double as a public address (PA) system for onboard announcements or ship-to-shore communication using an external loud speaker or hailer. The RX speaker function even lets you monitor the received audio from the loudspeaker or hailer while you sit on the deck or tower. Additional details include seven-step keypad backlighting, instant access to channels 16 and 9, and a low-voltage indicator for when the battery is running down. Housed in an attractive white case, the radio measures 6.47 by 3.06 by 5.47 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a three-year warranty.

Standard Horizon STD-HX471S Handheld Marine VHF Radio (Silver) Overview

Titanium dual band handheld W63 submersible 5 watt marine VHF that transmits and receives on VHF marine and FRS, received on MURS, AM/FM broadcast, aircraft bands, DSC distress call with NMEA GPS input, submersible to 3 feet for 30 minutes, includes 1300mAh lithium-ion rechargeable battery, 3 hour 110 VAC, 12 VDC 3 hour quick charger and charger cradle with NMEA interface, cable with cigarette lighter plug, programmable scan and user selectable priority scan, Dot Matrix display and high intensity strobe light, 5/2.5/1 watt transmit power output on Marine VHF, 500mW FRS

Standard Horizon STD-HX471S Handheld Marine VHF Radio (Silver) Specifications

Keep on top of emergencies, stay in touch with other boaters, and even listen to your favorite AM and FM radio stations with the Standard Horizon STD-HX471SS handheld two-way VHF radio. Specifically designed for marine use, the HX471SS is factory programmed with all U.S., Canadian, and international marine channels, letting you communicate easily with other ocean-going vessels. At the same time, the radio receives a host of weather channels from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA), so you can learn about approaching storms or hurricanes well before they hit. And should you want to call your friends or family on shore or sing along to your favorite station, the HX471SS can handle that, too. The radio's Family Radio Service (FRS) band accommodates your ship-to-shore communications, while the AM, FM, and aeronautical bands give you a ton of listening options. Simply put, the HX471SS lets you monitor a range of frequencies previously unavailable in any portable marine VHF radio.

As with any well-built marine radio, the HX471SS is rugged and fully waterproof, with a high-impact, non-corrosive, silver die-cast chassis that can withstand a high degree of physical abuse while also standing up to submersion in 1 meter of water for 30 minutes. Want a submersible radio to take hiking, skiing, hunting, or caravanning? Look no further. It's also a breeze to browse through the channels using the scan function either without priority (starting from lowest to highest) or while monitoring emergency channels. And should you want to scan between a VHF marine channel and a FRS channel, simply activate the Dual Watch function. Other operational details include an NOAA weather alert function that notifies you of impending severe weather, a Preset key that lets you store up to 10 channels for each band, and a high-intensity strobe light that emits the internally recognized S.O.S. signal during emergencies--a must for any boater. The S.O.S. beacon can be seen from up to 1 mile away.

Another nice feature is the NMEA charging cradle that lets you connect the radio to a GPS. Once connected, the radio stores your GPS location in its memory, and then notifies the Coast Guard or other emergency service should an accident occur. In the event of a distress, simply grab the HX471SS, lift the Distress cover, and depress the Distress key for three seconds. The radio will then transmit a distress call with your position while simultaneously activating the strobe light.

Packaged with a 1,300 mAh lithium-ion battery, HX471SS delivers 10 to 12 hours of operation on a single charge. Plus, the battery is guaranteed never to develop a "memory" that inhibits its ability to work for a full day. To charge, simply attach either the AC or 12-volt DC cable to the charging cradle and you're set (charging time is roughly three hours).

The radio, which also comes with a quick-draw belt clip, measures 2.36 by 3.78 by 1.12 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a three-year warranty.

What's in the Box
Handheld marine VHF radio, rechargeable battery, AC charger, 12-volt DC charger with cigarette lighter plug, charging cradle, user's manual.

Standard Horizon Quest-X STD-GX1500SB Waterproof VHF Marine Radio (Black)

Standard Horizon Quest-X STD-GX1500SB Waterproof VHF Marine Radio (Black) Review

Standard Horizon Quest-X STD-GX1500SB Waterproof VHF Marine Radio (Black) Feature

  • Fixed-mount marine VHF radio programmed with all U.S., Canadian, and international channels
  • Supports all NOAA weather channels; high-quality microphone with noise-reducing technology
  • Compatible with optional RAM+ remote microphone; Digital Selective Calling sends immediate distress signal
  • Transmits GPS location when connected to receiver; Dual Watch and Priority Scan modes
  • Submersible black chassis; measures 7 x 3.1 x 5.9 inches (W x H x D); 3-year warranty

Standard Horizon Quest-X STD-GX1500SB Waterproof VHF Marine Radio (Black) Overview

Black GX1500S fixed mount submersible VHF marine transceiver with class D DSC distress call with NMEA GPS position input, oversized alphanumeric display and rotary knob, loud speaker audio (can be heard in noisy environments), 25/1 watts, DSC position polling when connected to GPS chartplotter, connection for RAM+ for VH-310 second station remote mics, programmable scanning, dual watch, priority scan and NOAA weather and alert, customizable channel names, die-cast chassis, repeat GPS information on the display, noise canceling microphone with 16/9 and channel selection keys

Standard Horizon Quest-X STD-GX1500SB Waterproof VHF Marine Radio (Black) Specifications

Stay safe while navigating the coastal waters with the Standard Horizon Quest-X fixed-mount VHF radio. Specifically designed for marine use, the Quest-X is factory programmed with all U.S., Canadian, and international marine channels, keeping you fully informed of all the latest oceanic activity. At the same time, the radio picks up 10 weather channels from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA), so you can learn about approaching storms or hurricanes well before they hit. And because it's nearly impossible to monitor the NOAA channels at all times, the radio includes an audible weather alert tone and visual alarm. The variety of channels and functions make this an essential tool for communicating with other boaters, marinas, the Coast Guard, and commercial towing companies, all of whom can offer live-saving assistance during a crisis.

The Quest-X comes with a high-quality microphone that meets the same strict waterproof standards as the radio. More significantly, the microphone incorporates Standard Horizon's ClearVoice noise reduction technology, which eliminates unwanted background noises such as engines and wind. The resulting "loud and clear" transmissions are crisp and easy to understand the first go round, adding to the safety of all involved. At the same time, users can create a second VHF station through the same antenna by connecting a separately sold Remote Access Microphone (RAM+) or a VH-310 telephone-style handset. The advanced submersible microphone, which works at such locations as the fly bridge, cockpit, or tower, controls all the radio functions from a distance while also showing the channel names and repeating the GPS information. The RAM+ microphone even comes with 25 feet of routing cable, so you don't need to run additional wires for an external speaker.

The Quest-X also meets the internationally recognized requirements for Digital Selective Calling (DSC), which allows you to send a distress signal at the touch of a button or exchange position information with other boats or stations. DSC activates a continuous, unattended "mayday" signal that identifies your vessel, reports your latitude and longitude, and gives the time. Furthering the Quest-X's safety reputation is its GPS compatibility. When connected to a GPS position receiver, the Quest-X can send your GPS position to other boats in an emergency, or it can poll the GPS location of another vessel and display it on your LCD screen, with Speed Over Ground and Course Over Ground info to help keep you on track.

Finally, the Quest-X is a breeze to use thanks to the large, backlit LCD display, which offers tall, wide digits and obvious, easy-to-identify information flags. Other details include a Dual Watch mode for monitoring one user-selected channel at the same time as emergency channel 16; a Priority Scan mode for scanning any combination of channels along with a priority channel; customizable channel naming; and an oversized rotary channel selector.

Bundled in a submersible black case, the radio keeps on talking even after a full drenching. The radio, which measures 7 by 3.1 by 5.9 inches (W x H x D), is backed by a three-year warranty.

What's in the Box
Quest-X fixed-mount radio, microphone, mounting bracket with hardware, power cord, quick-reference card, user's manual.

Uniden MHS 350 2-Channel VHF Waterproof Two-Way Marine Radio Specifications

Stay safe while navigating the open waters with the Uniden MHS 350 handheld two-way VHF radio. Specifically designed for marine applications, the radio receives all U.S., Canadian, and international marine channels, keeping you fully up to date on all the latest oceanic activity. At the same time, the radio offers 10 weather channels from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA), so you'll hear about approaching storms before they hit. And thanks to the radio's Specific Area Message Encoding (S.A.M.E.) weather alert, you needn't worry about receiving bad weather news from outside your region. Instead, S.A.M.E. employs a FIPS code that syncs with your specific location, so if a nasty wind or rainstorm is gathering in your immediate area, you'll know, but you won't be bothered by storm warnings 100 miles up the coast.

As with any good handheld marine radio, the MHS 350 is waterproof and rugged, with a compact design that fits easily in the hand. It's also a breeze to browse through the channels thanks to the scan function, which starts on the lowest programmed channel and progresses to the highest. And when in scan mode, the radio automatically actives the Triple Watch Plus function, which monitors the emergency channels (16 and 9) along with a user-selected channel and the weather alert. Knowing that emergencies typically don't announce themselves in advance, the Triple Watch Plus function is a must for safe boating. Users also have one-touch access to channels 16 and 9, just in case.

When you're not using the radio, simply drop it in the charging cradle, which will keep the rechargeable NiMH battery pack operating at full capacity. Standard Horizon STD-HX370SAS VHF Marine Radio

Standard Horizon STD-HX370SAS VHF Marine Radio Review

Standard Horizon STD-HX370SAS VHF Marine Radio Feature

  • Handheld marine VHF radio factory programmed with all U.S., Canadian, and international channels
  • Supports all NOAA weather channels; compatible with 40 commercial Land Mobile Radio (LMR) channels
  • Channel scanning for all or programmed channels; monitors emergency channels and NOAA weather alert
  • Oversized LCD display with channel names; certified as "intrinsically safe" for hazardous commercial environments
  • Includes ni-cad battery and drop-in charger; measures 2.3 x 3.7 x 1.2 inches (W x H x D); 3-year warranty

Standard Horizon STD-HX370SAS VHF Marine Radio Overview

Intrinsically safe submersible 5 watt marine portable VHF handheld radio with 40 programmable land mobile, channels with CTCSS and DCS signaling, selectable 5/2.5/1 watt transmit power output, submersible to 3 feet for 30 minutes, supplied with 1400 mAh Ni-Hd battery, battery tray, AC/DC chargers with cradle, quick draw belt clip, programmable scanning/dual watch, NOAA weather and alert, low battery indicator, SOS strobe light and key lock.

Standard Horizon STD-HX370SAS VHF Marine Radio Specifications

Keep on top of emergencies while staying in touch with other boaters with the Standard Horizon STD-HX370SAS "intrinsically safe" handheld two-way VHF radio. Specifically designed for commercial marine use, the HX370SAS is factory programmed with all U.S., Canadian, and international marine channels, keeping you fully informed of all the latest oceanic activity. At the same time, the radio offers a host of weather channels from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA), so you can learn about approaching storms or hurricanes well before they hit. And if that weren't enough, it's also compatible with up to 40 commercial Land Mobile Radio (LMR) channels with CTCSS or DCS signaling, though a Standard Horizon dealer will need to program the channels (and users are responsible for obtaining the appropriate FCC license).

As with any well-built marine radio, the HX370SAS is rugged and fully waterproof, with a compact design that can withstand submersion in 1 meter of water for 30 minutes. It's also a breeze to browse through the channels using the scan function, either without priority (starting from lowest to highest) or while monitoring emergency channels 16 and 9 and the NOAA weather alert, which warns you of inclement conditions. Other operational details include a Preset key that easily recalls your eight most-used channels, an oversized LCD with channel names, and a high-intensity strobe light that emits the internally recognized S.O.S. signal during emergencies--a must for any boater. The S.O.S. beacon can be seen from up to 1 mile away.

The HX370SAS is also certified as "intrinsically safe," which means the radio itself and such accessories as the FNB-V57IS ni-cad battery pack, the CMP460 speaker microphone, and the FVP-31 voice scrambler meet the requirements of ANSI/UL913 6th edition for use in intrinsically safe environments, and are also built to withstand the day-in, day-out punishment of hostile commercial environments. The latter group includes: Class 1: flammable gases, vapors, or liquids; Div. 1 Group A (acetylene), Group B (hydrogen), Group C (ethylene), Group D (propane); Class 2: combustible dusts; Div. 1 Group E (metals), Group F (coal), Group G (grain); and Class 3: ignitable fibers and flyings.

When you're not using the 5-watt radio, simply drop it in the included charging cradle, which will keep the rechargeable ni-cad battery operating at full capacity. Also included is an AC charger and a quick-draw belt clip. And because dead batteries can be a serious safety hazard on the water, the HX370SAS sports a battery life indicator on the LCD that warns you when the battery needs charging. Also compatible with optional speaker microphones, headsets, and voice scramblers, the HX370SAS radio measures 2.3 by 3.7 by 1.2 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a three-year warranty.

What's in the Box
HX370SAS two-way radio, charging cradle, ni-cad battery, AC charger, belt clip, user's manual.

Global Positioning Systems - How They Work

Global Positioning Systems - How They Work

The Global Positioning system (Gps) was originally developed by the Us soldiery who launched satellites (the first satellite was launched in 1978) into orbit. The system consists of a network of between 24 and 32 satellites orbiting the earth at about 7000 mph, in a accurate manner, two times every day. In the early days only the soldiery could track the signals but in the 1980's it was opened up to the normal public. Before we get into the specifics it is foremost to comprehend that the use of the satellite network is free, there is no subscription required.

The other advantage is the system is essentially unaffected by weather and it is accurate in any place in the world. Some might recall the Loran system which was favorite with boaters before Gps became popular. Loran was capable of providing a very accurate position but only in slight areas where the transmission of signals was adequate and in case, granted the weather was not adverse. Gps transmission satellites orbit the earth in a very accurate and constant manner. As they orbit 12,000 miles above, they transmit radio signals 24 hours a day, every day. The receivers we use simply receive the transmitted signals and assess the time the signal was transmitted against the time it was received. Knowing the signals tour at a fixed rate of speed makes it easy to intuit how far the satellite and the receiver are from each other.

Gps Boating

If this process were done with only one satellite the consequent would not be useful for us since it would only indicate a inherent arc of a position. To supply accuracy the receiver has to receive signals from a minimum of 3 satellites. In actual use, the receivers typically track the signals from many more satellites. In order to supply data like speed, direction, length traveled, etc. The receiver repeats the position calculation on a continual basis and thus updates the position and other data. The signal transmitted includes the satellites Id, the satellites position at any given time and the date and time. Accuracy of the receivers has improved with technology advances to an median of about 15 meters. In real custom it is base to see accuracy within a meter or two, at least at times.

Global Positioning Systems - How They Work

When Gps was opened up for social use the signal was intentionally degraded by the Government which was referred to as Selective Availability (Sa). Sa has been discontinued so civilians now enjoy full accuracy of the system. Technology referred to as Wide Area Augmentation system (Waas) ready with some receivers improves accuracy to about 5 meters. Receivers qualified with Differential technology apply corrections to the data based on other known references. The end consequent is accuracy and functionality of Gps receivers to the point we all can rely upon. As a consequent we now see and enjoy Gps watches, auto and boat Gps navigation systems, Gps cell phones.

Garmin Gps Systems - Your perfect Guide

So you have decided to buy one of the many Garmin Gps systems available. First, you need to undertake assorted Garmin Gps comparisons. There are many versions available, for many types of vehicles and requirements. When comparing Garmin Gps pilotage systems, it's best to go with what is best for you, not what person else has or what might seem the best simply because it is the most expensive. Similarly, a Garmin transported Gps principles is great for person who is in and out of a car, as they need to take it with them to prevent theft. However a fixed Garmin global positioning principles would be good for person who has no need to be removing it from its mounting all the time (or someone, like a courier, who is in and out of their car more times than they care to think about!). You assuredly don't want your Garmin Gps principles to be a hindrance!

    Gps Boating

Compare Garmin global positioning principles prices, and see if it might be cheaper to purchase a Garmin Gps principles online. Many places sell Garmin global positioning systems online, so be sure to have a look nearby as it may be cheaper (even taking into catalogue postage) to buy your Garmin Gps principles from an outlet that does not have the overheads a corporeal shop-front might have. The issue with shopping online is, of course, not being able to 'play' with your new Garmin global positioning system. But a trip to the local Gps shop may fix that.

Garmin Gps Systems - Your perfect Guide

One of the Garmin Gps systems ready is the Garmin 2720 Gps. This single Garmin Gps principles offers many features, along with the ability to schedule points of interest (such as speed cameras and school zones) so you need never be caught out again. The flashy Garmin 360 Gps doubles as a personal assistant, boasting facilities such as Mp3 players, a translator, and Bluetooth capabilities enabling you to make hands-free calls. an additional one good pick is the Garmin c530 Gps - ready to go straight from the box, this unit is a good pick for those needing an Atm or petrol middle point quickly - just touch and go!

Garmin Gps systems offer it all; the hardest part is picking which one you like. Read some Garmin global positioning systems reviews, which are normally unbiased and give both pros and cons for each model. With a Garmin Gps pilotage system, you can't go wrong!

    Free Gps Software

    Free Gps Software

I took a look at some of the online offers for free Gps software and found, like many "free" offers there were often limits and provisos involved. Often the freeware is a scaled--down version of purchasable products. Sometimes the free product has restricted functionality with features disabled, other products are trial--based and are disabled after a certain time (hours or days or use).

An example of itsybitsy free Gps software can be found at Gps Utility. The downloadable freeware is itsybitsy 100 waypoints and 500 track points. (There are 65,000 of each in the registered version of their program.) The free program gives you a good occasion to try before you buy, and this is the advantage of most free programs.

    Gps Boating

There are online sites that list assorted free Gps software and retell how to use the programs after you download them. Often individuals who have used the programs themselves establish the sites. These are great because they give you an unbiased interpretation of the benefits and disadvantages of the programs before you use them.

    Free Gps Software

Using free Gps software you can download programs that allow you to retrieve and display aerial photos, topographical maps, Usgs landmarks. There are programs ready that allow you import scanned images and add latitude and longitude points and other data.

Free Gps software downloads are ready for Pda units that are capable of communication with Gps receivers. With these downloads you can have a beneficial navigation assistant, location database manager, and Gps data converter.

Programs to administrate Gps waypoint and route files are ready for both Pc and Mac users. The waypoints and route files can be saved or converted to assorted formats used by other mapping programs.

If you need to change facts to and from your Gps receiver and your home computer or laptop there are some free programs that allow you to do so. There are also programs that allow Garmin Gps receivers to "talk" to one another.

Many of the programs listed here are directed at the hiking/trekker community, but there are also free programs ready for auto Gps systems and maritime navigational systems. I found a join of maritime navigation programs that allow you to download maritime charts and plotters.

There are free Gps software programs that allow you to download street maps that might not be included in your auto--navigation system. If you intend downloading in--vehicle software, make sure that it has audio capacity, an critical security factor for motorists. One such program offers data for some countries with voice advice in twelve languages.

Free Gps software is also ready for downloading to your cell phone. This is mostly tracking software and can be phone specific. You might want to check with your carrier before downloading whatever to your cell phone to make sure that it does not incur extra charges.

As satellites are permanently moving, it is helpful to know the optimal time for data range in your area. There is free Gps software that includes an almanac to let you know the availability of satellites at any given time.

Some of the free Gps software is brand specific. Programs designed for a Garmin receiver may not work for a Magellan, so check out the specifications carefully, especially if you intend purchasing a registered version after your trial period. Other software works with most brands.

One could add the further sonar to the marine gps units and be able to find large objects below the waters edge. They all come with 3D mapping and distress calling capabilities in case of emergencies. On land, the transported marine gps units are just as durable and dependable as on the water. www.edmunds.com You've got a busy summer ahead. Before setting out on that road trip out West or back East, you'll have to find time to download some travel music. (We recommend new releases from Common, My Morning Jacket and Weezer.) After that, we've got another assignment for you that promises to make your summer trip easier and may enhance your listening habits, too: Get a portable navigation system. Of course, we wouldn't dream of leaving you out in the cold on such an important decision, so we're updating last year's portable navigation system roundup with four new or newly improved portable systems. Since our last portable navigation review, a few of the units we sampled have changed significantly, plus there are two all-new units that seem promising on paper — the Dash Express and Becker Travel Assistant. More Than Just Directions Although most navigation systems have the same map data provided by one of two companies, all units are not the same. The interface, computing time and features vary greatly. One thing to keep in mind when shopping for a portable navigation device is that price isn't a good indicator of quality. Some of the poorest-performing devices can also be the most expensive. On the other hand, even midprice brands offer tons of features, including a way to play those downloaded Weezer tracks. Another notable feature is real-time traffic — all the units featured here have it. If you don't need features like traffic and the ability to play music ...

Traditionally, mariners used the stars to guide them while on the sea, but when the stars are covered by clouds, modern mariners rely on marine Gps systems. marine global positioning systems help mariners to know exactly where they are while on the water. This is important, because even the most seasoned sailor can get confused on the open water. The internet has many places where you can collate the differences in the middle of systems like the Pioneer Gps navigation system, the Garmin Gps 2620, and the Magellan Sportrak Pro marine Gps system, to name a few. Each of these marine Gps systems has slightly dissimilar features, and the one you choose will depend on your needs.

    Gps Boating

For instance, some of these models have waterproof casings that are helpful if you find yourself in a sudden storm. Others may have displays that can be read even in intriguing sunlight. Do you wear gloves when you are boating? If so, reconsider finding for a marine Gps system that can be operated with your gloves on.

You may find that a smaller system works well for you, so you can save some money by not purchasing the laptop version. So remember, don't just collate Gps navigation system prices, but also collate features.

Marine global positioning systems are not just for individual boat owners. Industrial fishermen also find them significant pieces of tool when tracking their inherent catches. Some of the higher end models have features that can track movements of fish and predict the best location to fish the next day. Also, fleets that are fishing together can use marine Gps positioning systems that allow individual boats to chronicle their positions with the other boats in their fleet.
